How to: Small Closet Space Organization

Update: I just moved into my new home, I am expecting a baby soon and I feel like the nesting season has just started!

Now that I am done all of the "Big Things",  I can now do all of my home organization. I look forward to to being able to open a closet space and know that everything is organized and in it's place. This is why I decided to blog about "How to: Small Closet Space Organization."

While browsing Pinterest on small closet organization, I realized that my closet actually isn't that small. In fact, most average apartment linen closets are about the same size as mine. This is how I organized my small closet.

To start,  I emptied my closet and decluttered all of my items. Believe it or not, this was the easy part. I used a life changing de-cluttering method created by Marie Kondo.  She has a Best Selling book called, " The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing"

This book has saved my mind from the myth of tangibility. I rather the minimalist approach for the peace of mind.

After decluttering, I went to my local Goodwill store and purchased some plastic containers and wicker storage bins to keep everything organized.

When you are ready to start the organization part, start by placing all of the bins and baskets in the closet according to likeness." Like items" on the same shelve. Then, place all of your newly decluttered items in their correct bin.

Here is what I came up with:

Top Shelve:

-Toilet paper and Paper towels

2nd Shelve:

-Shampoo/ Conditioners/ Body products in plastic bin

-Wash clothes in small wicker basket

3rd Shelve:

-Shower caps in small tube.

-Hair extensions packs in large tube

-Nail care in plastic bin

Floor:

- Craft paper, Art supplies in wicker Picnic Basket

- Unused makeup products in plastic storage bin

Because I took the time to declutter and organize one of my closets, I feel as if weight has been lifted off of my shoulders. I can finally breathe for a day or two and move on to the hallway closet. Before I sign off I want to leave you with a tip. It may seem overwhelming at first when you are staring at a closet filled with plastic bags and unorganized chaos. But, If you stick to these simple steps everything will be in it's place which is guaranteed to help you feel at peace. Take baby steps... Rome wasn't built in a day!
